History
Georgian Windpower Corporation itself was formed on March 19, 2003 but its history began in the late 1980's. At that time one of the founder, Mr. W. Wink, a business man in his own right, procured a tract of land in the Georgian Bay area. He was advised that the land was "very windy, you may not find it very useful. It is history now that wind power would rapidly advance in popularity around the world over the next two decades.
At the same time another founder of Georgian Windpower Corporation, Mr. M. Monette, was working as a thermo-dynamics and gas turbine specialist for Westinghouse Canada in Hamilton. The principles and practices that go into the development and operation of commercial scale gas turbines are not unlike the sophisticated design methods that are today the foundation to building high efficiency wind turbines. Mr. Monette then became a consultant in Ottawa, Canada and worked in the energy field on such programs as the Enersave Program and R2000 building design and was a proponent of Solar Energy and Mass Storage in housing design @ leveraging his knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer into the housing industry.
Over the next two decades the founders worked in various areas of Canadian and International business and in 2003 they came together to consider the deployment of a small number of wind turbines on the property in Georgian Bay, which lead to the naming of the company. In the course of investigating the requirements for commercial deployment of wind turbines the founders, including a third member well versed in large scale projects requiring detailed integration of private and public sector interests, realized that there were significant issues preventing the adoption of wind power in Ontario, and indeed, in Canada. This began an intensive review of all aspects of the renewable energy sector and addressed all components: supply, logistics, site location, wind resource, labour, government policy, financial and banking and regulatory rules and processes.
This approach has resulted in Georgian Windpower Corporationj unique approach to wind energy systems deployment which addresses all elements from supply and logistics through to site deployment and commissioning.
